I was recently honored to be a guest on the Pet Parent Hotline podcast, talking about dogs and grief. This was my second appearance on Amy’s show. You can watch my last appearance talking about Trauma In Rescue Dogs here. Amy is a rescuer, educator and a really nice, passionate person who loves animals. Amy subscribes to my newsletter (and you should too! Sign up here!) and follows me so when she saw I had written about Dogs Grieving Each Other, she asked me to be a guest on her show to discuss that and more.
In this episode, I sat down with Amy Castro to talk about something a lot of pet parents wonder about but don’t always say out loud, do pets grieve? We get into what I see in my doula and pet loss companion work, the behavior changes that often show up after a loss, and how to support the pets who are still at home while you’re grieving too.
We also talk about why routine matters so much, when to loop in your vet, and why animals understand death but don’t understand disappearance. If you’re facing a loss or you’re already in it, I hope this conversation gives you clarity and a little steadiness. Listen to it here or wherever you get your favorite podcasts.
And remember, I’m here for any of your training needs. If you are preparing for the loss of your own dog, I offer my doula services here or you can book my special consult if you’re considering behavioral euthanasia
If you’re struggling, you’re not alone. I’m so sorry and am here to support you. I can help you through my doula services if you need quality of life assessment, emotional support or guidance in any way for your pet loss journey. You can schedule a session here! If you need behavior or training support, you can schedule a session here.
Your story matters.
Your bond matters.
Your grief matters.
And I’m here to help you honor all of it.

Happy training!
