Babies are constantly learning. Newborns can imitate your mouth when you open your mouth, your baby learns to imitate and open theirs.

As babies grow, they’re constantly taking in what we’re doing.

So it’s important to review what your interactions look like with your dog now and if those interactions are things you can visualize your child safely doing?

And I’m talking about hugging or crawling up to them or smooches or whatever. If this isn’t something that is safe for a child to do, then you don’t want to be modeling that and need to start to make changes now to break those habits.

Same is true for training techniques and interactions. Children watch everything.

Also, broadcasting your observations are things we can incorporate into your communication with your baby or child. Well before expressive language (your child’s ability to express themselves) is developed, receptive language (understanding conversation, stories, social situations) is developed. You can start from an early age broadcasting your observations. “Oh look Sammy just licked his lips so we’re going to go over here to give him more space.” This becomes a skill that will not only help your interactions with your own dog but will help with other dogs in your community.
